Wyatt Burns, M.S., CMPC

My path to becoming a student-clinician at Groupworks began at Utah State University, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology and competed as a collegiate athlete. During this time, I coached gymnastics part-time and was involved in a sport psychology research lab. These experiences cultivated my interest in the relationship between human development and performance and eventually led me to pursue a master’s degree in sport psychology.

During my graduate training, I had the opportunity to work with athletes on their mental performance. However, I found myself increasingly drawn to clients facing challenges that extended beyond performance, which ultimately led me to pursue a degree in clinical psychology. At Spalding University, I have become particularly interested in the complex relationship between achievement and psychological distress. Long-term, I hope to integrate these interests into a private practice focused on psychological assessment.

My clinical interests include neurodevelopment, anxiety, trauma, and personality. As a clinician, I take a client-centered and strength-based approach. I believe in nurturing and reinforcing the personal qualities that suit my clients values. I aim to help my clients navigate life while developing a healthy sense of self and connection to others around them. I aim to create a therapeutic environment that feels safe, inclusive, and individualized to each client’s needs.

Outside of psychology, I enjoy traveling, staying active, and spending time outdoors. Running, camping, and climbing are some of my favorite ways to recharge and have fun. I am also always down for live music or an adventure with the people closest to me.
